Description of Preventive Maintenance
Preventive maintenance is the care and protection of your vehicle against potential major auto repairs. Negligence is the most common and costly way to see money wasted on repairs that could have easily been prevented through regular service intervals. Depending on your vehicle’s manufacturer, avoiding preventive maintenance on certain parts and components has the potential to void warranty coverage. Car maintenance intervals have been designed to improve the reliability, durability, and resale value of your vehicle. Based upon your driving conditions, these service intervals may arrive sooner than you expect. For example, short commutes can actually hurt a vehicle because most engines thrive during long drives. Driving short commutes, experiencing stop-and-go traffic, and carrying heavy cargo are all aspects of severe driving. However, severe driving can also be reinforced by your environment. Hot or cold weather, mountainous or rough roads, and dusty or salty environments can all affect your vehicle. Because of these innumerable factors, adhering to a rigid service schedule can keep your vehicle operating at maximum efficiency for years to come.
Benefits of Preventive Maintenance
Vehicle components and parts naturally wear out over time, and road hazards can negatively impact critical components. By adhering to the preventive maintenance schedule in your vehicle owner’s manual, you will help ensure that your vehicle always runs at optimal conditions. Depending upon the vehicle’s service interval mileage, maintenance may include an inspection of your steering and suspension components, fluid filters, belts and hoses, brakes and axles, and other parts to help ensure that your vehicle functions efficiently. Routine maintenance may include checking the level of vital vehicle fluids. Other maintenance items you may see in your owners manual include checking exterior and interior lights, examining windshield wiper blades, checking the battery, inspecting hinges and locks, reviewing the level of ball joint wear, checking exhaust system components, and checking tire wear and inflation levels. We perform a variety of preventive maintenance services. Contact us to learn what we can do for your vehicle. It is important to schedule preventive maintenance to help your vehicle continue to work as intended. Remember that environmental conditions may affect your ideal preventive maintenance schedule. Depending upon your environment, you may need to seek more frequent inspections and replacements. Contact us to learn more about recommended car maintenance service intervals for your vehicle.

Where is Glenn Dale Tire & Auto, Roadside Assistance located, and what areas do you serve?
We are located in Glenn Dale, Maryland and serve the Northern Virginia and DC areas. Our experienced mechanics perform a variety of repairs, including engine diagnostics, brake repairs, preventive maintenance, wheel alignments, and transmission work. We are also a clean emission testing and repair center, as well as a heavy-duty emissions testing center. Our shop can accommodate a variety of fleet vehicles too.
Can I wait while my automobile is serviced?
Yes, you can. We encourage our customers to arrive at the beginning of the workday, but we understand that your schedule doesn't always permit an early arrival. For those times, we offer a customer lounge that includes wireless internet, television, and refreshments. Please let us know when you make an appointment if you prefer to wait.
What transportation options are available if I cannot stay while my vehicle is serviced?
If a family member, friend, or coworker is unavailable to assist you when you are leaving your car, we can recommend rental car options or transportation services like Uber or Lyft. College Park Metro is also less than a 5-minute walk from our shop.
Do you offer a warranty/guarantee on your work?
Yes, we do. You will be given a 12-month/12,000-mile warranty on our labor. All parts are guaranteed as per the manufacturer’s warranty for each specific part.
What vehicles do you work on?
We work on all makes and models of domestic and foreign standard passenger cars and trucks.
How do I keep track of routine maintenance?
We recommend keeping a maintenance schedule to plan for services that prolong the life of your vehicle, reduce vehicle failures, and gain peace of mind. If you prefer, we can maintain the schedule for you.
How do I know when my car needs a tune-up?
You should bring your car in for a tune-up if you notice any abnormal sounds or odors, a lack of efficiency, or general rough riding. The most common signs include the check engine light coming on, stalling engine, vibrations throughout the vehicle, pulling, or worsening fuel mileage.
What is preventive maintenance?
Preventive maintenance and car tune-ups help reduce the chance of your vehicle unexpectedly breaking down. We recommend regular oil changes, spark plug checks, fluid checks, belt and hose inspections, alignments, tire rotations, and consistent brake and light checks.
What parts should be replaced at what intervals?
Your owner’s manual provides all necessary information regarding what parts to replace and when to do it. Read it thoroughly and note any exceptions or severe service notations. Warranties are there to protect the consumer, but you must follow the requirements. If you have questions about warranties, please contact us.
How can I receive an estimate?
You can schedule your free estimate by filling out a form on our website or by calling us at +1 (301) 699-0001.
